Horizon West isn’t so much a town, but rather a series of villages in a planned community.
Hamlin is the centerpiece of Horizon West and serves as the community shopping/dining/entertainment hub. The Horizon West development is divided into several areas that include the villages of Bridgewater, Lakeside and Hickory Nut. In spite of these designations, all of these areas share a postal code with Winter Garden, FL. Welcome to the wonderful world of sub-sub-sub divisions.
People are attracted to this neighborhood for the same reasons they are attracted to Celebration – close proximity to Walt Disney World, lots of shopping and dining options and well cared for communities. The difference between Horizon West and Celebration is it tends to be less pretentious and a bit less expensive.
Information and History
Horizon West is a 26,000 acre planned community bordered by Disney World in the south, and Winter Garden in the north. The idea was to create “mixed-use villages surrounded by open space areas and anchored by a town center”. What they didn’t count on was how popular this area would become. In the 2010 census, Horizon West had an estimated population of 14,000. Today, it’s estimated that number is over 30,000 residents. Its rapid growth has presented some challenges for the area, but it remains one of the most popular areas for Disney fans moving to Central Florida to be closer to the magic.
