Reason 873 to Move to Orlando: Resident discounts on Disney Cruise Line

One of my favorite parts of living in Orlando is the close proximity (45 min) to Port Canaveral.  That’s especially good when I consider the opportunity of Florida resident rates on Disney Cruise Line.  Now, I’ll be upfront and say that during “normal” times, these rates can be hard to come by. But right now, they’re in abundance.  Take a look here.

Yes, these are relatively last-minute sailings that Disney uses to ‘fill the ship’, but let’s break down pricing.  As of the time I’m writing this, a 4-night sailing in a category 7A (Verandah) stateroom on May 6th, 2022 would cost $1989 for two adults.  With the Florida resident discount, that price drops to $1170 – that’s more than 40% off. This is one of the reasons I’ve been able to amass dozens of Disney cruise vacations over the years. (My other job helps a lot as well).

The trip to Port Canaveral is a relatively straight line from Orlando via the 528 (also known as the Beachline Expressway).  It takes about an hour to get to the port from where I live.  Being able to take a long weekend and cruise to Castaway Cay makes up for a lot of the frustrations that can come with living in Orlando (I’m looking at you, I-4).

Disney Cruise Lines sailings out of Port Canaveral are our favorite. However, Florida has no shortage of other cruise ports within driving distance. This includes sailings out of Tampa, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale. In addition, most cruise lines operating out of these ports offer last-minute deals or Florida-specific rates. This is especially true on short 3-4 night cruises. Royal Caribbean offers a variety of last-minute cruise deals out of multiple Florida ports. And Norweigan has last-minute deals out of Miami. These are ideal offerings for Floridians to take a long weekend off work and head out on the open seas for some fun and relaxation.
