MICHELIN Guide has announced it will begin awarding stars here in Florida. In conjunction with Visit Florida, the first ever restaurant selections for Orlando, Tampa, and Miami will begin with the inaugural edition of MICHELIN Guide Miami, Orlando, and Tampa which debuts next year (2022).
“MICHELIN Guide inspectors look forward to discovering the world-class culinary landscape in Miami, Orlando and Tampa,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the MICHELIN Guides. “From the excitement and glamour of Miami to Orlando’s iconic attractions and the splendor of Tampa’s Gulf Coast, Florida’s gastronomy is unique, diverse and intriguing for locals and travelers across the globe.”https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/article/news-and-views/michelin-guide-florida-miami-orlando-tampa
What does this mean?
Currently in the US, Michelin Guide only operates in a few cities: New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington DC. Coming to three cities in Florida speaks volumes to the dining scene in the Sunshine State. Also, it proves Florida has been growing to garner respect in the culinary world. Dana Young, President and CEO of Visit Florida is excited to establish Florida as a world-renowned culinary destination. Additionally, this will highlight all the state has to offer from locally-grown produce to fresh seafood.
What local restaurants may make the list?
I am interested in how Florida’s AAA Diamond Restaurants stack up against MICHELIN. For instance, Christini’s Ristorante Italiano in Orlando is a Four Diamond Restaurant. There are also a few on Disney property. These include Bull & Bear at the Waldorf Astoria, Capa at Four Seasons, and Todd English’s bluezoo inside Disney’s Dolphin. However, Victoria & Albert’s is the only local Five Diamond Restaurant. AAA Diamonds can be a challenge to receive and there are similarities to MICHELIN Guide in how they evaluate establishments. In short, I would love to see some of these amazing restaurants get some recognition from MICHELIN Guide. First, Victoria & Albert’s needs to reopen. However, this may motivate them to reopen sooner.
