The Joy of Living in Florida: Getting to Experience the Newest Attractions

Since making the move to Central Florida, I have noticed another great perk. Living so close to Disney and Universal means more time and flexibility to experience the newest theme park attractions. This past week, I had the pleasure of experiencing the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster. The new ride officially opens on May 27 at EPCOT. I won’t spoil it for you, but it was incredible. Back in October, we got to experience Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure early as well. Had we still lived in West Virginia, we could have been waiting a while to experience some of these attractions. For some, they wait a year or more. But as residents, we get to be some of the first to check them out.

I recognize that part of this is because we have both Annual Passes and Disney Vacation Club which not everyone does (although the AP and DVC population in the Moving to Orlando group is quite large). Even without being in an affinity group, Florida residents still have lots of opportunities to experience rides and attractions without having to wait months or even years. We have the flexibility of living nearby. If we want to be there opening week, we can make plans and do it. This applies to new restaurants and other experiences also. Residents have a lot more flexibility in grabbing last-minute reservations and taking part in limited-run events like holiday parties, RunDisney, etc. There are so many perks to living nearby and I can’t wait to continue to take full advantage of them.
