We love getting to know our Moving to Orlando Community. So, we polled our readers to see what made up their decision to make the move to Central Florida. We incorporated many popular options in our poll. These included Walt Disney World, Cruise Ports, beaches, Universal Orlando, space exploration (launches), performing arts & cultural opportunities, food, beautiful weather, and other. Also, we gave our community an option to tell us any reason we may have left out. The results are not at all surprising. Let’s check them out!

We had over 600 responses and we allowed our community to choose all the options that match their reasons. It is not a surprise how large of the vote Walt Disney World took. However, beautiful weather was not far behind. Disney World and the weather outranked all the other options by more than double. Universal Orlando pulled in less than a third of the votes Disney World got. The same can be said for cruise ports. These are all still great options, but it’s clear that this group loves Disney. Here is a pie chart visual to get a better idea of how much our group loves Disney (green) and beautiful weather (pink).

Over 10% of our community chose other and many shared what they meant when they chose this option. We saw some great other reasons to move to Florida. Examples include being closer to family and improving one’s health. It makes sense that warmer weather can often be better for your overall health. I have experienced this myself both physically as I suffer from poor circulation and cold weather can be a challenge. I have also experienced improved mental health as ample sunshine really can have a positive effect on your mental wellbeing. In addition, better weather means being able to be outdoors more and stay active.
Another reason shared with us was the ability to meet friends with a shared interest in Disney. Since there is no shortage of people moving to be closer to the magic, it is quite possible you will meet others who share the same Disney -loving interest. I know we have been lucky to meet some great Disney friends while living here and we love going to the parks with them.
It’s no surprise that beaches took some votes, but not nearly as much as I had expected. Central Florida is a great place to live if you love the beach. We are central to both the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, and we are far enough in the middle of the state to not get hit as hard by hurricanes as those who live along the coast. There are so many great beaches to explore.
While the remaining options didn’t take a large portion of votes, to me it is just a bonus that Central Florida has a lot of great dining and entertainment options including cultural events, festivals, space launches, other theme parks, etc.
