At first, I was surprised by the amount members from the DVC Fan Facebook group who joined the Moving to Orlando group. Surely all these Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members weren’t all looking to move to Florida like we were. It turns out, many were. After much thought, it really wasn’t so strange. DVC members are a group of fans who already love Disney enough to purchase a real estate interest in Florida, as Pete Werner reminded me. It would make sense that because of that love, some of them might decide to purchase a home in Florida eventually. This later became a DVC Show topic that I’ll include below for your viewing pleasure. I thought it would be fun to explore some of the advantages of living in Florida as a Disney Vacation Club member.
We are Always in Town for Special DVC Occasions

Gone are the days of almost never having our trips line up for a special DVC event. I’m full of hope that member events like Moonlight Magic will come come back. When they do, we will finally have a much easier time attending. This is a great advantage to living in Florida as a DVC member. You are most likely going to be around to experience all those special experiences. A few others I have always wanted to try (that I hope return) are the DVC Member Mother’s Day Brunch and the DVC Member Thanksgiving Feast. These are special occasions we have always missed when we lived to far away.
It’s “Cheaper” and Easier to Grab a Room For a Late-Night Event

Heading to the After Hours Boo Bash party? Don’t want to drive home afterwards or spend more money for a hotel? We’ve got points to spend instead! This is something you’ll probably want to plan in advance to secure your stay. However, there is just something so satisfying about not spending cash and using points. Yes, I know we paid for those points, but in the long run, that Grand Floridan studio I just booked to walk to my room from Boo Bash isn’t going to cost me $700 a night or even close to that. When you’re a local and a DVC member, you can not only attend more fun parties, you can spend the night after to fully immerse yourself in Disney for the evening.
We Can Take Advantage of Last Minute DVC Availability

A Club Level room just opened up at Animal Kingdom Villas for the weekend? No problem. As locals, we can easily scoop it up and make a fun staycation out of it. Okay, we will have to take the dogs to pet camp, but we don’t have book flights, airport transfers, or figure out how to pack our bags for TSA (or how to fly our Gideon’s cookies home). Living in Florida as a DVC member means we may actually be able to take advantage of last minute availability when it pops up.
We’ll Have More Points to Book DVC Outside Disney World

Since we most likely won’t be spending long trips at Disney World, we will have more points available for other uses. This means, will can travel to Aulani more often, head over to Vero Beach, or Hilton Head Island Resort. Maybe if we get lucky, we can find a way to snag an elusive Grand Californian reservation. On a similar, but different note, we will have more points to experience accommodations we might not otherwise book. Hello Polynesian Bungalow!
