The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has a plethora of entertainment options throughout the year. This incredible venue offers Broadway shows, live entertainment, educational programs, and more. Let’s dive into why we love this place so much.
First off, the Dr. Phillips Center is a beautiful building. Prior to moving, we traveled to Pittsburgh for theater shows and concerts. While I love the old historic theaters like the Benedum Center and the Byham Theater, there is something very stunning about this newer theater in the heart of downtown Orlando. This center boasts two theaters with another on the way as well as banquet halls. It easily hosts multiple events at a time.
There is a variety of entertainment options to explore at the Dr. Phillips Center. Honestly, it’s almost an overwhelming amount of shows and events to choose from. You’ll find Broadway shows like Frozen, CATS, and Shrek the Musical. We also noticed Hamilton and Wicked were coming in the 2023 season. We promptly put our names on the list to hopefully get season tickets. There are symphony performances, comedians like Wanda Sykes and Chris Rock, kid’s shows, and well-known artists like Alicia Keys and The Piano Guys. We visited to see Frozen on Broadway and had a great time at this show. The seating is great throughout the entire Walt Disney Theater. As the rows go back further, it turns into stadium-type seating. Each row in the back is up higher than the row in front of you which makes it easier for everyone to see. Before the show, there are plenty of spots on multiple levels to grab a drink or a snack for the show. It seemed many people would arrive early to just grab a drink here with friends prior to the show. There were a lot of tables and chairs and seating throughout the building.
This is definitely a gem in Orlando and the source of many great opportunities to enrich yourself in the performing arts. It’s also another reason to love living in the Orlando area.
